Time for Change - Looking Forward

Leicester Children’s Holiday Centre in Mablethorpe has been giving underprivileged Leicestershire children free holidays for 120 years. After sending around 60,000 children away on holiday since 1898 trustees have decided that it is time to make changes so that they can continue to offer relevant holidays for 21st century children.

A decision has been made to close the 1930s building in Mablethorpe and to offer exciting holidays which will comply with the ethics and standards of the charity at carefully selected coastal sites. These offer educational and outdoor activities that will suit the children of today and are supervised by highly trained staff.

The much loved Mablethorpe centre has become increasingly expensive to run as it has to be maintained and heated even when there are no children on holiday or visiting schools using the facilities. Trustees are aware that their prime duty is to provide holidays and know that within a very short time the financial burden of the building will mean they cannot continue to give Leicestershire children the break they need.

Chairman Shaun O’Donnell said
“The staff at the Centre in Mablethorpe have worked tirelessly to make sure children have a memorable holiday but the building has become very expensive to run and the Board of Trustees all agree that we cannot continue to find the resources to keep it going. We have visited several fabulous holiday centres around the UK and the facilities and activities they offer are wonderful and we agree are more relevant to modern children People who have donated money or attended our events can rest assured that their money will be paying for holidays in 2018 and beyond, we will be continuing to make sure that if we know of any local child who needs a holiday we will do everything possible to give them a fantastic week away with many memories”.
