Our Holiday Centre in the dunes at Mablethorpe was opened in 1936 and replaced two buildings that housed the original Boys’ and Girls’ homes.
The central block has a dining hall and kitchen on the ground floor and a small stage at one end where the activity leaders and children put on shows for their fellow holidaymakers. Above this is a large playroom and lounge. Staff bedrooms are also housed in this central block.
On each side there are corridors with toilets and individual showers. The corridors lead to dormitories on the ground and first floors. Each dormitory sleeps 15-16 children, boys on one side and girls on the other.
In recent years a lot of work has been done to make the Centre more accessible for people with disabilities and more comfortable for the children and the staff who look after them.
- all round replacement of windows with double glazed units
- ramps to entrances and exits to aid disabled access
- major replacement of boilers for hot water and central heating
- complete refurbishment of all dormitories – new beds, new lockers and full redecoration.
Our present projects include updating and extending CCTV around the Centre to improve security and ensure the children’s safety.
We are also hoping to build a small outdoor shelter/gazebo where children can chat and where staff can hold storytelling sessions out of the weather.
